Page 4 of 7 My 2 cents about Dance PartnersDo I need a dance partner to improve my Salsa dancing? You bet ! Never leaveAll I will say about having a dance partner is this: the sooner you have one to practice with, the faster you’ll improve. However, make sure you pair up with someone you actually enjoy dancing with! Do not make the mistake of choosing a dance partner who is charming and incredibly sexy (I wont’ deny that to be a big plus), but has one of the following drawbacks: is not as committed as you, has no interpersonal chemistry with you, or makes you feel in anyway like a doormat. You will spend lots of time with this person, and in close contact at that, so choose wisely. I’ve been blessed to have an equally committed dance partner with whom I actually enjoy dancing and who treats me with respect and consideration. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen the opposite in the dance world, Salsa or otherwise. Above all, choose a dance partner you respect as a person. It will make the inevitable edgy moments between you a heck of a lot easier to iron out. |
