Puerto Rico Salsa Open 2006
We are finally back from Puerto Rico after 9 days of beach and salsa! The congress was a total blast and this year's competition was one of the toughest and most exciting ever! We captured lots of footage and pictures that we'll be adding to our gallery starting today.  Click here to check out the ones that are already up in the gallery!

The Puerto Rico Salsa Congress was simply out of this world ! The best music, the best shows, the best dancers we've seen all in one package. The congress celebrated its 10th anniversary as it was the first salsa congress of its kind ever to take place in the history of contemporary salsa.

We competed in the Open and had our share of exposure and  nervousness going through the whole thing. Big Congrats to Oliver and Luda from Australia who crowned themselves twice in a row as World Salsa Champions; simply flawless, perfect execution, and the most exciting routine of them all! Anita and Adrian from Spain came in second and Kelvin and Liselott from Puerto Rico placed third place. All 3 couples were simply amazing on stage! For your enjoyment, we have the semi-finals in the gallery. We also have performances by the famous Jhesus Aponte, Tito Ortos, and Jayson Molina, all from Puerto Rico. Just so you get a taste of the flavor, technique, and passion these dancers bring to the stage.

If you've never been to the Puerto Rico congress, we highly recommend you go to the island to see one of the cradles of salsa in its most accomplished form. In Puerto Rico, salsa is not only the music of choice, even cab drivers can tell you the pianist from La Sonora Poncena and play salsa all the time, but it is also the de facto form of dance. Here everyone knows how to dance salsa, of course! The young and old alike share this fervent passion for their music and their dance. And boy do they shake it ! Just check out out gallery for the performance by the Danzarines de Papa Tambor (featuring the famous Tito Ortos and Dicky Colon) to see a sample of the Puerto Rican flavor!

Stacey Lopez, also another salsa legend in Puerto Rico, mentioned to us that there were no salsa clubs in San Juan simply because there is always salsa music being played in the Plazas by the likes of El Gran Combo, La Sonora Poncena, even Gilberto Santa Rosa, all for FREE !!!
